Should I shut down the blog, or do you find it helpful? I would like ANYONE and EVERYONE in the class to respond, so please pass this post along. One of the original ideas behind the blog was to have students ask questions AND students answer each other's questions... with occassional help from the teacher. Instead, it appears that apart from a very occassional student answer (muchas gracias to those of you those of you that have provided an answer here and there), I am doing the bulk of the answering. I have offered extra credit (which I do follow through on) but even that hasn't seem to boost participation much.
So... if you want the blog to continue, post a response here and at least tell me that you read it. If you are a frequent reader, but you don't post questions or answers, I'd like to know "WHY?" as well. You can leave your response with your name or anonymously, I'm OK with either.
If I don't get any responses to this post... well, look at it from my perspective folks, why should I bother?

ok i think some people in our geometry class are feeling less than happy with you because we get ALOT of hw and it takes us a while to do all of it. i don't come on here alot but i recently asked a question so it feels like its here when i need it to be
ReplyDeleteThanks for the response... I'd like to see some more.
ReplyDeleteI understand that you feel the hw load is heavy. It is important for me to follow the model at MHS and (if anything) I occassional take the hw a notch down when I can. You are taking a VERY ACCELERATED PROGRAM of study that requires a lot of work.
Also, I think you have noticed by now that I don't come down too hard on people that have trouble completing the homework. If you DO keep up with the hw and ask questions on the blog and in class, I think an "A" is a likely consequence. There are not to many people that can skip the HW and skate to an "A". If you are doing 2-3 hours of hw consistently, that's a problem... cut back and do every other problem, but still try to get an overview of the whole lesson and assignment. I'm flexible, talk to me.
I can be understanding however it is not up to me to alter the course requirements. There is no doubt... this is a DEMANDING HONORS LEVEL curriculum.
I agree its helpful for when you get stuck on a problem but also, its not easilly accessible. You have to go on the computer and go to the cite and click on the blogger, etc. This could take some time so I think people dont bother to use it because of the accesability issue not the fact that it isnt helpful.
ReplyDeleteya it is definitely halepful except right now when i cant find the blog for our current hw :(
ReplyDeletehelpful*
ReplyDeleteYou could make the blog site one of your "favorites" (perish the thought!) to avoid the clicking through the mathchamber pages... as for an occassional post not being up to date with the hw, just comment on the most recent post and that will remind me to set up the new post
